Privacy

The short version: The Browser has no account and no analytics, and it doesn’t send your browsing anywhere. This page covers the app, this website, and purchases.

The app

Your history, bookmarks, open tabs and settings are stored on your Mac. Saved passwords go into your macOS keychain. None of it is sent to us.

The app connects to the internet on its own only to:

  • check downloads.thebrowser.app for updates, if you allow it. No system profile is sent.
  • refresh its ad and tracker block lists from easylist.to once a day, and fetch a pinned uBlock Origin Lite release from GitHub for YouTube.
  • activate and check your license with Polar, our reseller. This sends your license key and a label for your Mac.

What you type in the command bar goes to the search engine you choose (DuckDuckGo unless you change it). Websites you visit see what any browser shows them.

If the app crashes, the report stays on your Mac. On the next launch it offers to let you send it to us, and you can read it first.

Agents connect through a local socket that only your user account can open. They see only the tabs you share with them. Nothing listens on the network.

This website

thebrowser.app sets no cookies and runs no analytics or third-party scripts. It’s hosted on Cloudflare, which processes your IP address and request details to serve and protect the site, and may keep short-lived logs. Downloads are served from Cloudflare R2.

Purchases

Checkout is run by Polar, the merchant of record for sales of The Browser. Polar collects your payment details, billing information and email to process the order and send your receipt and license key, under its privacy policy. We receive your email, country and order details, and never see your full card number.

Your choices

You can turn off update checks in Settings and clear your browsing data at any time. To ask what we hold about a purchase, or to have it deleted where the law allows, write to hello@thebrowser.app.
